Girlmonster is a series curated by Chicks on Speed taking place at Kampnagel.
Every Girlmonster show presents a lecture, a video screening, a performance and a
concert.
Girlmonster #13 is hosted by Melissa Logan (CoS) and beside the performance Gudrun
Ankele (Vienna / tutor/publicist) will give a lecture on females in the economic
system, Melissa Logan will screen a film and DAT Politics will perform a concert.
For the performance we need at least 8 performers wearing ONLY grey civilian
cloths.
Rehearsals are planned for Friday and Saturday afternoon.
Showtime is Saturday, 19/03/2011, 21.00h.

About the performance:
IF NOT US, WHO? IF NOT NOW, WHEN? is a live sculpture, a pageant of a street
protest frozen in time and space. The performers should form a compact group and
mime a group of people protesting/demonstrating on the streets. The demonstration
should appear "frozen", the performers should hold a still pose without the
slightest move, simulating vigorous marching, screaming/chanting, lifting fists,
etc. The whole living sculpture/situation should look like a cut out, a fragment, a
live photograph of a street protest, a riot stopped in time and space. The
performers are about to move only when a passer-by throws a coin in the metal bowl
that is placed near the protesting group. Similarly to the street "living
sculptures", when paid, the demonstrants should move minimally and smoothly -
phasing a large movement (one step or lifting of a fist) into several small phases,
no jerky, large or expressive moves. The still poses should appear as frozen
movements, as being in the middle of an action, of a step, scream, etc - not as a
standing demonstration. The demonstration would manifest continuously in slow
motion, frame by frame. The performers should for the whole duration of the
performance remain silent.
The whole tableau vivant speaks about the illusoriness of subversion, about the
controlled condition of the public space and the economic relations that create
invisible ground and rules hidden behind each apparently spontaneous act.
